Editor&Publisher: St Louis Beacon seizes Pulitzer opportunity

“We are submitting what we think is our best work, one entry in two categories,” the online-only St Louis Beacon Editor Margaret Freivogel said, according to Editor&Publisher. “It is about the mortgage crisis and explains what it is all about.”

The Beacon, launched in 2008, is one of ‘at least five web-only news outlets’ that plan to take advantage of the new Pulitzer rules, E&P speculates. Full story at this link…

Editor&Publisher: Tribune Co. outsourcing not finalised, says reporter on blog

  • The Economist has introduce a mobile update service for UK readers. Texting ALERT to 80801 will get you Friday morning round-up highlighting the key issues from the week’s edition.
  • The Daily Record has added to its online portfolio with a new motoring website. Car sales site www.roadrecord.co.uk features some very refined search facilities and tag clouds based on the most popular searches, a release from publisher Trinity Mirror says.

Editor&Publisher reports that the Sun-Times Media Group Inc., publishers of the Chicago Sun-Times and other newspapers, and career website operator Monster Worldwide Inc., will launch cobranded job search and recruitment websites.

Editor&Publisher: New York Times creates ‘instant op-ed’ feature online

A list of experts ready to comment on breaking news stories is being compiled from which the paper can get ‘instant op-eds’ after a story breaks, says Andrew Rosenthal, editorial page editor.

A section of the website will be given over to these op-eds, adds Rosenthal, and readers and opinion writers will be encouraged to react and contribute to the instant feature.

Editor&Publisher: Politico content-sharing network attracts 67 newspapers

Politico’s content-sharing network, launched only three months ago, has signed up more than 100 partners, including 67 newspapers.

The agreement will make Politico’s online political news content available in return for ad placement on partners’ sites.
