A public meeting is to be held in London on July 13, hosted by Media Workers Against the War / Stop the War Coalition.

Speakers include:

Stephen Grey, investigative journalist embedded with British troops in Helmand and author: ‘Operation Snakebite: The Explosive True Story of an Afghan Desert Siege’, and ‘Ghost Plane: The True Story of the CIA Torture Program’.

Guy Smallman, photojournalist, recently returned from Helmand.

Seumas Milne, columnist, the Guardian.

Dear Sir,

We as journalists believe that our colleague Muntadar al-Zaidi, who protested at President George W. Bush in Baghdad on Sunday is guilty of nothing but expressing Iraqis’ legitimate and overwhelming opposition to the US-led occupation of their country.

We call on you to guarantee his safety and effect his immediate release from custody.
