David Penberthy, former editor of Sydney’s Daily Telegraph, will launch his new multimedia site, The Punch, early next month.
The site will feature a daily dose of opinion pieces, regular contributions from bloggers, aggregated news and external links. In addition, it will crossover with a half-hour political discussion TV show of the same name.
“There are some great websites … (but) there’s no general opinion sites aimed at a large mainstream audience,” said Penberthy, according to the report.
“Equally, it isn’t going to be a ranting, lowest-common-denominator site, either.
“Online can be a bit of a moshpit. We will encourage people to use their real names when posting comments so the standard is a bit higher.”
