#Tip: ‘Doorstep’ key YouTube accounts so uploads are emailed to you

October 11th, 2013 | No Comments | Posted by in Top tips for journalists

Malachy Browne, news editor at social news agency Storyful, advises “doorstepping” key YouTube accounts so you receive email alerts when new videos are added to a particular account.

In a presentation at news:rewired, our digital journalism conference, Browne gave an example as to how this helped Storyful.

He explained how sources within Storyful’s US politics Twitter list said that an April Fool’s prank had been pulled on Mitt Romney, who was on his presidential campaign rally.

Sources said that staff had taken Romney into an empty room. But who would have a video? asked Browne.

Romney’s “bagman” has a YouTube account and Storyful was able to sign up to an alert and receive an email about the video 30 minutes before Romney tweeted about it.
