BBC executives’ expenses: the links. Now play!

You’ll find the information tucked away on the BBC Freedom of Information site at this link.

Update: Journalism.co.uk wasted a little bit of its time getting the annoyingly inaccessible BBC PDFs into spreadsheet format, but knew that the Guardian’s data people would be doing that too. So we’ll get back to other duties while you have fun with this from the Guardian’s DataBlogDATA: download the full spreadsheet of BBC executive expenses.

More to follow from Journalism.co.uk, but in the meantime the links you’ll need if you want to play yourself. Some files are missing – BBC Information informs us that there are more to come.

Little will be keynote speaker at the World Digital Publishing Conference

September 24th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted by in Events, Online Journalism

And while we’re on the theme of digital conferences in Amsterdam, news comes that the Guardian News & Media’s special adviser, Caroline Little, will be the keynote speaker at the annual World Digital Publishing Conference & Expo, to be held October 15-16.

Little was previously behind the Washington Post and Newsweek Interactive’s growth online, as their chief executive officer and publisher. She now advises the Guardian as it expands its online presence in the US.

Other speakers at the conference will include Ilicco Elia, head of mobile Europe for Thomson Reuters, Gary Clarke, director of business development for Amazon Kindle, and Frédéric Sitterlé, new media director for Le Figaro in France.

Organisers say that there are still places available at the conference.

SIIA: iCopyright previews Discovery copyright tracking tool

September 11th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted by in Events

Mike O’Donnell, chief executive officer of iCopyright, gave Journalism.co.uk a sneak preview and an introduction to its new Discovery tool at the SIIA Global Information Industry Summit yesterday.

The tool scans public sites, including blogs, for reuse of a publisher’s content. The publisher can specify the search terms, e.g. how much of a match, how important the offending site is in terms of ad revenue, and how the application will contact and deal with the infringer.

A tool from iCopyright, which already handles copyright licensing for the Associated Press, is also being developed for bloggers and smaller, independent publishers, O’Donnell said.
