John: well, I never knew that. Thanks for the edification. Nothing wrong with ketchup on chips if it’s just chips, but no civilised person puts it on fish ‘n’ chips. And don’t get me started on that brown muck they use in Edinburgh. Salt and sauce? Bleurgh.

Ben Newspaper fish and chip wrapping was banned in the UK in the 1980s but the practice still persists elsewhere in the world, including New Zealand, according to Wikipedia. Also, ketchup on chips? What's wrong with that?

Newspapers are great for cleaning the ashes from the glass windows of my cast iron stove/fire. Wet the newspaper, then rub the offending stains.
