BBC reporters get mashed and mapped

Japanese newspapers joint-website goes live

FT sells off German paper to focus on digital strategy

Adrian Holovaty: Chicagocrime.org to shut

The developer behind the ground breaking Chicagocrime.org, has said the Google Maps mash-up that details crime info on an interactive city map will be no more.

Holovarty says that when the site shuts this week all pages will redirected to the appropriate area on EveryBlock, the new project that effectively replaces Chicagocrime by charting public news and information on interactive maps across cities in the US.

KCNN: CUNY journalism school launches site for Cit Journos legal risks

The City University of New York has launched a website aimed at helping citizen journalists avoid getting into legal hot water as they go about their assignments.

The site (www.kcnn.org/legal_risk) is a collaboration between CUNY, the Knight Foundation and the Knight Citizen News Network.

It offers info and training on rights and responsibilities related to news gathering and online publication.

Yahoo: WSJ.com adds Facebook function

The Journal is adding a feature to its site that will allow readers to see which of its stories are popular among that user’s Facebook friends.

The “SeenThis?” feature has been developed for the WSJ by Loomia, which has previously developed its on-story feature called “People who read this … also read these stories”.

Press Gazette: Independent website records pre-relaunch traffic fall, comScore shows

In the month building up to its long anticipated relaunch last week, The Independent website had 264,000 fewer visitors compared to figures for the period in 2006, according to comScore.

The Independent is yet to take part in the monthly web traffic reports by the Audit Bureau of Circulations Electronic (ABCe)
