The Plain Dealer would like to note that reports of our death are greatly exaggerated. Or, in the exact word of Publisher Terrance C.Z. Egger, <a href="http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2009/03/publisher_calls_report_baseles.html" rel="nofollow">"baseless."</a>

[...] Read it and shake your head - because, again, with this kind of thought (that advertisers will soon realize that no one clicks on Internet ads and will then come back to the newspapers and save them - no, really, that’s what’s being suggested) being proffered by the professional journalist atmosphere, they’re only tempting the fates as they scrunch the blinders tighter.
All major newspapers in our country will either be all-online or out of business within three years. As the giants convert, the weeklies and the locals will soon follow.

We at The Alternative Press (http://www.thealternativepress.com) are ahead of the curve. We are New Jersey's all-online daily local newspaper, currently serving Millburn, Livingston, Summit, New Providence and Berkeley Heights. With over 3,000,000 hits since October and more than 75 paid freelancers and 14 columnists on staff, we have developed a promising model to serve as a lifeboat for the world of professional journalism.

In addition, we are 100% local - all of our reporters and columnists live in New Jersey and nearly 90% live in the 5 towns we currently cover. The management of The Alternative Press were born and raised in New Jersey, making our site truly local.
