Erm… new job? What new job? Confusion at Cision
September 30th, 2008Posted by Judith Townend in Online Journalism
This rather exposes my high-level research methods for our Smart Moves column, but thought it was funny.
Yesterday’s Cision Media Bulletin reported that:
Katy Guest has joined The Independent newspaper as Deputy Literary Editor … and The Independent Magazine Rhiannon Harries has started as the Editorial Assistant.
So this morning, I dropped them both an email to find out more so I could write a little nib for our site. Rather swiftly two emails came back: both along the lines of ‘new job, what new job?’ In fact, Harries hasn’t changed her job at all, and Guest tells me she has been deputy literary editor for 18 months.
Not quite so up-to-date job news then…

Hi, my name is Jenny Skinner and my team is responsible for researching and ensuring the accuracy of data for Cision’s media database and bulletin.
I can confirm that the highlight we included on Katy Guest was incorrect; we have investigated and confirmed that Katy is not new to the role. We are currently looking into Rhiannon Harries’ position.
We will, of course, be including an amendment in tomorrow’s media bulletin.
We’re currently developing solutions to help avoid scenarios like these from happening; please check out http://www.cision.net to find out more and feel free to comment at http://www.cision.net/archives/1981

Same old Cision!! Nothing ever changes!
Been using Vocus for past 18months, much better. Have a demo of their evaluation/reporting. Very impressive.
