If you want to know your place in the grand scheme of things, the application TouchGraph is just the job.
Enter a website’s url or some keywords into the TouchGraph browser and it will show you the connections between related websites.
As Shane Richmond points out, it might not have much of a purpose yet, but the results do look rather fetching. Here’s Journalism.co.uk on the map (we’re in the middle):
